Jose and Nancy's Baptism

One of our favorite things about living where we live is the number of opportunities to do missionary work. We have a wonderful ward and a lot of the strength comes from the new strong and enthusiastic new converts. I think we have had like 30 so far this year.

Michael used to be the 11 year old scout leader as well as teach their Sunday school class. For almost a year now Jose has been coming to church with his cousins the Smiths who got baptized a year ago. Despite his love for Church and the Book of Mormon, his mom would not let him get baptized. But last week she finally said yes. We were very excited for Jose and his big decision. Jose LOVES Michael and was very excited to announce to him that not only was he finally getting baptized but that Michael was going to baptize him. Michael was honored and excited to do it.

I have been giving the Smiths the new member discussions for the last 6 months and they are awesome new member missionaries. Every time I come over they try to invite an investigator. The last 3 times Nancy has joined us.

(Sidenote how we met Nancy story- Houston is pretty confident at Church. He thinks he owns the place. He walks around without a care. Last 5th Sunday, during a combined 3rd hour we were all back in the chapel in a casual Sunday School setting. Houston squirmed out of my arms running to chase after his ball he had rolled to the front of the chapel. He took off running as I reverently tried to catch him. He looked back just as he rounded the front pew to laugh at me like, "nice try mom, keep it coming" and as he looked back to see where his runaway path was leading him he was stopped DEAD in his tracks as he was 6 inches apart nose to nose of a BIG service dog! He gasped the air out of the room and tried to spit out "Dog! DOG!" as he came running back to me! I started laughing SO hard along with the whole front row including the owner of the dog Nancy. We had a bond from then on.)

I have seen Nancy grow a lot in the last month and was grateful when I was asked to be a part of her big day by sharing a talk on the Holy Ghost.
It was a beautiful baptism. The only bad part was that in my talk I tried to use a story about baseball hats so I brought 4 of our Giants hats to illustrate. I thought it ended up working out pretty well for the talk but when I could only find 3 cleaning up I found out that gutsy 11 year old Jose had asked Michael if he wanted to give him one for his baptism and softy Michael could not say no. Sorry sweetie... I did not see that coming when I planned my talk!

We love you Jose and Nancy and were blessed to be a part of your big day.
